The Bike for the Planet event was a great success with more than 80 riders participating in the 2 hour event.

We all assembled at the Lions' Pavillion in Victoria Park at around 9:30am where we heard our MPP, Lou Rinaldi, and the Director of Go Green Cobourg, speak to the desirability of improving the safety and conveninece of bicycling in Cobourg and Northumberland County, and the benefits to personal health and the environment that will result as more people are encouraged to use their bicycles regularly.
Along the way, there were two stops where speakers pointed out some improvments that could be made. Being right on the spot was a great way to bring the point home. A police Segway escorted brigade for the duration.

We stopped twice along the way to listen to speakers briefly describe the problems or untapped possibilities of bike travel in Cobourg.

At the end of the ride, the Cobourg Police were available to provide an engraved identification registration on the bicycle so it could be returned to the owner if stolen.
